Rambling: Halfway Through The Month
It's Tax Day! (Is anyone happy about that?) So get your forms submitted. (Even if you're simply filing for an extension.) I know Shakespeare told us to beware the ides of March, but maybe we should change that to April. (Of course T.S.Eliot stated that April is the cruelest month...maybe he had the same phobia of tax season that I do) I'm just glad that my taxes are done. (And yes, I have someone to do them for me because the whole thought of it makes me want to vomit.) I'm not happy with what I have to pay. (Sigh.) But pay I did (and will) because I have an irrational (or maybe it is rational) fear of the IRS and I want it out of my queue ASAP. (Which is one of the reasons why I HATE having to put off doing all the work associated with it. I want it done and the necessary paperwork that doesn't arrive in my inbox until March drives me crazy!) Death may be frightening, but the IRS comes in at a close second.
So get your forms in today and then you can go enjoy the beautiful weather. Because at least here on the east coast we have suddenly gone from winter to summer with very little time for spring. And while I am happy for the warm weather (you know that I live for it), I do wish we had more of a transition instead of a sudden spike. And I know that once I open all the windows and put the screens in the storm doors, the temperatures will plummet back down and my boiler/furnace will be chugging along again. (Let's not discuss the cost of heating oil shall we? That's almost as frightening these days as taxes are.)
But April 15th isn't only tax day, it is also the day that one of our greatest (if not THE Greatest) president's passed away (that would be Abraham Lincoln). It's also the day that the Titanic sank. (Beware of icebergs...of course at the rate they are melting this might not be an issue for much longer.) It's the day that back in 2013 there was a bombing at the Boston Marathon. (And I had just started blogging that month and it was my third post: https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/there-are-things-that-i-will-never.html). It's also World Art Day...and our world DEFINITELY needs more art. (I'm proud to say that my son is doing his part on that front.)
Speaking of my son (because I always am!) as we are half way through the month of April, that means that the school year will be wrapping up soon and my son will be returning home from college next month. This year we are going to make at least two treks out in order to bring all his stuff back. I am NOT going through what I did last year when it comes to the mini-fridge (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/08/fridge-issues.html for reference for those who you who don't know what the heck I'm talking about.) That fridge is coming home and then will somehow make it back to the dorm in the fall. I'm declaring it mine and I am keeping and storing it.
With my son home from college, there will be increased household costs. (Because he's a young adult male and he eats!) As of yet, I don't think he has a summer job completely lined up. I know he's got some thoughts, but getting a job (even summer employment) can be tricky these days. He always does some volunteer work, which is good for the resume (especially as he is going into his senior year of college), but not so good for the wallet. (He is wise enough to not spend a lot, but everybody needs money!) He actually made enough money last year that he owed the government. But I think you can guess who is actually going to end up paying. (It's supposedly being automatically deducted from my checking account today...I'll be keeping an eye open on that one.)
Before we know it, summer will be here...time just keeps flying by doesn't it? Halfway through the month of April will quickly turn into Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July and then back to school and Labor day! I guess I need to remember to slow down and enjoy what we've got while we've got it. Because if we don't, what's the point?
