Do It...Try It!

Image
The school year starts soon here in NJ.  For some it may have already started.  It's been 30+ years since I've been in a traditional classroom.  (But I still continue to learn...we all do...we all have the ability to keep learning from a wide variety of sources IF we want to and IF we open up our minds to the possibilities life has in store for us.)  Whatever grade you are going into; whatever age you; where ever you stand in life, here are my words of wisdom... If you want to do something...DO IT.  Don't let fears or social "norms" (whatever they may be...trust me there really aren't any norms), hold you back.  You want to do something; you want to TRY something; go on and DO IT. If you are girl and you want to play football; do it.  Try it.  If you love it, DO IT.  It may not be easy and you may face challenges and close minded people who say that you can't...IGNORE that.  If you love it; do it. If you are a boy and you want to play the fl

Vacation = Relaxation, Part 4

If you missed Parts 1 - 3: https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-1.html https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-2.html https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-3.html Monday was yet another beautiful day.  We were really winning on this year's vacation.  (Last year we had a lot of rain and when we returned in the fall we had more rain and even a little snow!) We had yet another wonderful breakfast; this time served by Shanice (Charice off on Mondays...and yes, the names got confusing).  Bacon, toast, juice, coffee and berries...you can't go wrong.  It was a delight to sit back and enjoy breakfast and the view.  No work for me today...sigh... Instead my son and I decided to go for another walk.  He wanted to go down to the outfitters (which is by the lake) and purchase a shirt he saw on sale.  We walked down the road to the lake path and directly to the shop.  The kid found the sh

Part 1: https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-1.html Part 2:   https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-2.html When I made it back to the lodge I decided it was time that I visited the pool.  Fingers crossed I headed down in hopes of finding a seat outside.  There was one lone lounger with no towel or person on it.  I asked a woman in the next chair over if it was open and when she replied yes, I made sure to "mark" my territory with my book and hurried to the ladies locker room to change into my swimsuit. I spent just over an hour lounging and reading as well as enjoying the pool.   Before I knew it was 2 in the afternoon and I had arranged to meet Colleen down at the Lakeview to meet with the chef and discuss my allergies with him.  My husband was relaxing in the room and my son decided to go on another nature hike, this time on the Rhododendron Swamp Trail, which is short, but uneven (lots of roots and rocks

Labels

Image
Who are you?  We identify ourselves by labels.  We brand ourselves with titles.  Are you man or woman?  Old or young?  Christian?  Jewish?  Islamic?  Agnostic?  White?  Black?  Employed?  Retired?  Parent?  Child?  Uncle?  Republican?  Democrat? Heterosexual?  Homosexual?  The list of labels goes on and on.  We all identify with multiple labels.   We allow ourselves to be defined by these labels.  And while we may be many things, there is one label that applies to us ALL and I believe it to be the MOST important thing that we are... We are human beings; all of us.  If we were NOT of the human race; the one race that we ALL belong to, we could not be anything else.  None of the labels above would be possible.   Like it or not, we are ALL tied together by the fact that we are human.  We ALL share this "bond."  You may not like the fact that the person you despise is tied to you as a human, but that is fact.  You may think that a person does not act like a human and that

Vacation = Relaxation Part 2

Be sure you've caught up with our adventure thus far:   https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/vacation-relaxation-part-1.html Although there is no longer a formal dress code for dinner at the Windsor Dining room, we are traditionalists.  (What's wrong with a jacket and tie?)  Skytop is a special place for us and we like to dress appropriately.   My son is especially enamored with the classic look, which is just one of the many reasons why he loved the resort.  He can dress as he wants and as he feel comfortable with no qualms. We arrived at the Windsor Dining room, we introduced ourselves and the greeter immediately knew that we were to be taken care of by Charise.  As per Colleen, Charise had not been working at Skytop for very long, but she completely understood the allergy situation and Colleen made sure she was well informed and trained.  She made a delicious meal even more enjoyable and since our family dines out infrequently (due to two things:  my allergies

Please Mr. Postman

Image
"Please Mister Postman (Mister Postman, look and see) Oh yeah (Is there a letter in your bag for me?) Please Please Mister Postman (Why's it been a very long time)... So many days you passed me by You saw the tears standin' in my eye You wouldn't stop to make me feel better By leavin' me a card or a letter You better wait a minute, wait a minute Oh you better wait a minute Please please Mister Postman (Wait a minute Mister Postman) Please check and see just one more time for me You better wait, wait a minute Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute." This song, written by    Georgia Dobbins , William Garrett,  Freddie Gorman ,  Brian Holland , and  Robert Bateman, though originally recorded in 1961 by the Marvellettes (and then covered by The Beatles) still resonates today.  Even in this age of email and text, "real" mail is a necessity.  I may be an "old lady" but there are things that I look forward to and expect in my mailbo

Vacation = RELAXATION: Part 1

If you don't want to read a vacation blog post, here is the (boring) nutshell version: January - August 2nd:  STRESS!!  (envision Anger from Pixar's Inside Out) August 3rd 1 pm - August 6th 11 am:  Bliss!  Peace!  Calm!  Skytop ! August 6th 11:30 ...:  Back to the real world.  STRESS! The longer version goes something like this: 2019 has been a rather stressful year for me and my family.  If it was just one thing, it would be more tolerable...but multiple stressors have gotten to ALL of us.  It would be nice if we could take a week long vacation, but that wasn't in the cards.  What we COULD manage was an long weekend getaway for my son's 14th birthday. (How did that happen?)  We've been to Skytop for his birthday for the past two years and also visited last November for 3 days...why are we going back again?  Well, despite all that we've done, there's still a lot that we haven't.  Plus distance wise close by (only about 90 minutes away), but feels
