Hello Darkness My Old Friend...

Image
If you're old like me, you know where the title line came from.  (If you're not Google it and then listen to it.  I prefer the original acoustic version, but that wasn't the version that charted.)  That song was running through my head this morning, for several reasons. For one, it's dark when I wake up.  My eyes snapped open at 3:30(ish) this morning.  This usually only happens when I am in NJ (which I am), as I know I will have to get up within the hour if I want to exercise before I head off to work.  So in the darkness I headed out for my morning walk.  I walked for less than an hour and have noticed the trend that I am going slower.  I'd like to claim that it is the dark (although there are plenty of streetlights and other light pollution), but I think it also has to do with my left knee.  You know the one that I injured back in December of 2022 ( https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2022/12/kneedy.html ), it still gives me some issues....

Part 1: Hot Days and Endless Queues or...

...observations of visit to WDW in the autumn when crowds used to be low.   I've talked about transportation.  I've talked about resorts.  Now it's time to get down to the nitty gritty:  the parks.  It's what you go for right?  (I don't know after this last trip, I could see myself just spending some time at the Boardwalk...  Of course I've said that before and it never has happened.)  For me this trip was shorter than I usually would take (oh, the days when we stayed for a full week or more) and as the title of this post says it was much hotter than I had expected (and previously experienced) in September.  (On our honeymoon in 1996, I actually wore a light long sleeve shirt and was comfortable.)  It was also more crowded than I have previously seen.  (I am used to "low times" in Disney, which apparently no longer exist.)  I TRIED not to be the cranky old lady, but let's face it...I am and I am not used to long lines and 100...

October Weekend

Image
It's a week into October.  I'd expect the days to be cool and the nights to get cold.  That sort of has been happening, but I'm really surprised at how warm the days over the past weekend have gotten.   I have had to turn on the heat in the mornings. (And I'm worried that I don't have enough fuel to keep this up; need some answers from our local fuel company as I've been kind of confused as to all the different tanks we have!)  Once the house is warm, I turn everything off and by midday I've got the windows open because it's been warmer outside than it has been in!  Not what I expected "up here!" (I’m NOT complaining though!) As a matter of fact it was so beautiful that I went for a walk on Saturday morning.  Just a stroll down the block was my intention. (We know how that goes.)   It was still cool out and I debated wearing a jacket over my long sleeve shirt and jeans.  I'm so glad I didn’t! (For once I made the right decision!) ...

(Almost) Fully Furnished

I proudly announced on social media yesterday:  "Ladies & Gentlemen, we have furniture!"  It was a true statement, but not completely. When we decided to purchase a home in the Poconos, we knew we would need furniture.  (Well how obvious was that?  I sold the house at the shore that my mother left me and took a few pieces (bureau, dresser, secretary/desk, two twin beds (on rolling frames), 3 end tables and 3 tvs.  (Maybe that's more than a few.)  I stored these items at the movers before we closed on the new house.  The day after we closed on the house in the Poconos, the movers came to our home in NJ and along with what they already had in storage, picked up a few more pieces of furniture.  There wasn't much because we still live and work in NJ.  If you walked into the house today, you'd might not even know that anything had been removed.  There is still a full living room, bedrooms, kitchen and (for the most part) dining r...

(Not) Under the Boardwalk

Image
I  have some apprehension about writing this post.  I'm afraid that by putting it out there, I will somehow jinx the magic.  But I can't keep my  WDW  experience hidden.  I've always shared my experiences at Disney, whether it be the "old days" where I wrote long trip reports for boards dedicated to the subject or my own blog post.  (My last trip with my family falls under the month of July 2016 and begins  here ).  So despite my apprehension, I'm going to tell all about my recent trip to the Boardwalk Inn. In looking back, this will be my 16th trek to Disney!  This includes 2 brief visits to the Magic Kingdom (back when it was the ONLY park there) when I was in school.  It was my first trip flying solo.  (I'd always gone with my husband and/or family.)  It was also my first time staying at this resort.  In all my trips (thus far) I have stayed at the Contemporary (pre-Incredibles theming and I'm not so sure ...

Travels & Transportation

Image
Even before Covid hit, I didn't travel a lot.  As previously mentioned in  https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2024/09/fly-away.html , I haven't flown in over 8 years and then it was with my family.  So this time was a big change for me and I was definitely out of my comfort zone.  While I will be writing about my vacation, I thought I'd put forth a few observations on all the modes of transportation I experienced during my vacation.   Car Service to and from Newark Airport:  For the first time I had to hire a car service to get me to the airport.  (In the past I have used the services of a friend, who is no longer able to drive.)  I got the recommendation from friend for a company that she uses.  I thought they were a bit expensive for what I needed (but then again I think everything is expensive).  My pick up time was at 4 in the morning.  (A killer, I know.  My alarm was set for...
