Monday, Monday...

I know it's not Monday but just let me say that this past Monday was a real MONDAY.  I know you know what I mean.  That kind of Monday that just slaps you in the face and says "HA!  You thought this was going to be an easy start to the week?"

It started with work.  We are closing out the previous month out and I got an urgent email about one of numerous items on a project that will NOT be billed to the agency involved, but to the client.  Every single other item that has launch or will launch will be billed to the agency except for this one single item.  Which leads to a long-convoluted email chain to try and fix the issue before we officially close the month at the end of the day Tuesday.  This process requires several people to do several different things and I'm not sure if they all know what they are doing.  (To be fair, I'm not sure I know exactly what I will be doing.)  Will this all get done by EoD Tuesday?  I'm not convinced, but my stomach is in knots even before I’ve had a second cup of coffee.  (BTW, I never had a second cup of coffee.)

While I'm sitting in the office working, I happen to glance out in the backyard.  (Love having a window so that I see the birds and trees) I see a guy walking through our (fenced in yard).  Normally I would be alarmed if I saw a stranger in the yard, but I was pretty sure that he was part of the landscaping team.  He wasn't wearing a uniform or anything like that, but when I walked over to the other side of the house, I could see a pick-up truck with bags of mulch in its bed, so I was pretty sure that he was a landscaper.  (I've only met the owner.)  It would have been nice to know that they were coming, but...

Later I saw the same guy AND the owner spreading some mulch.  My husband and I went out to talk to them.  The owner still says they have more work to do, and they won't get it all done today.  I still don't have an estimate and while I am happy with their work and what I anticipate they will be doing, I'm extremely nervous about what this is going to cost.  That coffee is churning in my stomach pretty well.  At some point they left, but I don't know when because they just come and go...not something I'm thrilled with, but...

After lunch (not that I ate lunch, but it was around noon), I went out to grab the recycling bin and bring it back to the garage.  I could see down the road to the west (where the road picks up again but doesn't connect to our portion...are you tired of me talking about this yet?), the HVAC truck of the company that we use.  I had gotten a text 20 minutes before saying the technician was on his way for our spring tune up, but obviously he didn't remember how NO to get here from previous visits.  Sigh.

They manage to find their way and arrive at our house 5 or so minutes later.  Before they start on the A/C system, they clean out our dryer vent.  (It had never been professionally cleaned as far as I knew, so I thought I might as well have it done.)  They are in the middle of the job when the power goes out.  Not great, especially in the middle of the workday.  (It was also a beautiful day out.)  No worries, we have a generator.  BUT...the generator doesn't power the whole house.  My husband and I have talked about that and getting certain rooms "off" (like the bedroom) and certain rooms "on" (like the office).  Think we need to do more than talk.  While our fridge stays on and nice and cold, the office is out and that includes Wi-Fi.  I give it a few minutes and consider going back to NJ early or head to the library to work (with the hopes that they have power).  Then I realized my car was in the garage. The garage with the electric doors.  Maybe it's past time to think about having the house "rewired" to the generator.  Thankfully the power came back on within 15 minutes.  (Whew...)

Then my husband goes downstairs to the basement.  And he notices water by the hot water heater. That's something you never want to see.  It's not a lot of water, but it's enough.  So...

As the technician is finishing up with the dryer and getting ready to do the spring tune up, hubby asks him to check out the water heater.  This is where we get the one good bit of news for the day.  It's NOT the hot water heater.  It's water filter.  It's leaking and needs to be replaced with a new one.  Apparently it's supposed to be changed every couple of months.  Have we EVER changed it?  My husband seems to think it was changed once when we first moved in... Thankfully we had one on hand and immediately ordered some more online.

FINALLY, there was the drive back to NJ.  I left later than usual because I was hoping that the work issue (see paragraph 2) might get resolved.  It did not.  But thankfully the ride to NJ wasn't too bad.

But if you thought that was the end Monday issues you'd be wrong.  I had a plant go rogue in the sun parlor.  It keeps growing but has lots of dead bits as well that were all over the floor.  Of course I vacuumed it up, but there was so much it jammed the hand vac!  So then I went to clean it over the garbage can and...do I need to say more?

I'm just glad Monday, Monday is over and I was hoping that Tuesday, Tuesday will be a little less...?  Intense?  But...

  • I had to have blood work and pee in a cup this morning.  That's not less intense.
  • I got home and noticed that the next bus would be coming in less than 10 minutes, so I ran to the closest stop and still had time to spare.
  • It started to rain.  I dug around for my umbrella.  I had problems getting it open.  Before I could, the rain stopped.
  • Traffic was heavy...the bus was coming.  Because of the heavy traffic (I'm assuming), the bus decided to get in the left lane BEFORE it got to my stop, and no amount of my waving was going to slow him down.  He passed me by.
  • There was another bus coming at the further stop.  I walked there and waited.  It started to rain.  I got my umbrella out and it stopped.
  • Traffic was awful on the bus (which is why I come in early.)
  • The city light rail was jam packed.  (Keep that mask on.)
  • I nearly lost my shoe climbing up the stairs from the light rail to the main concourse of Penn Station.

This Tuesday, Tuesday is starting out to be a real Monday, Monday...

Deep breath and let's get through it.  After all it is Cinco De Mayo and at the end of the day a margarita will be calling my name.
