Random Questions For Lincoln's Birthday

February 12th is Lincoln's Birthday.  He's my FAVORITE President of all times.  (Partially because of some family ties, but that's just part of it.)  I am so old that I remember when we didn't have a President's Day, but instead celebrated two holidays in February (not counting Groundhog Day and Superbowl Sunday, which wasn't always in February anyway), and those two were Lincoln's Birthday and Washington's Birthday.  While they may not be national holidays anymore, they are still important days for me.

This February 12th I "celebrated" by getting sick.  Nothing too major, just your typical head/chest thing.  For once I decided listen to my body and took a sick day.  (Amazing, I know.)  While I was resting (or at least trying to and ignore work emails that came in), my mind wandered to various questions.  None of which are related to Lincoln (or Washington for that matter), but I thought I'd just pose them here.

  • Why can't I find the following items in one place on line for a "reasonable" (and I use that word lightly) price?  I'm looking for warm (really warm) socks,  one (or more) thermal shirts (aka long underwear),  and long sleeve turtleneck shirts (to be worn under a sweater)?  (It wouldn't hurt if the site had some nice sweaters too, but I'm not going to push it.)  Shouldn't it be easy?  So far, for me, it hasn't.  The socks and thermals I don't care about color wise, but I'm looking for a wide variety of turtlenecks.  You could always tell when the weather was getting colder, because I would dig out my "winter uniform" of turtleneck under the sweater.  Somewhere along the line, I decided to give that up and I'm rueing the day that I did because I can't find what I am looking for.  (Again at a reasonable or semi-reasonable price.)  Suggestions?
  • When did my son become a Beatles fan?  Yes, my husband and I are uber-fans.  (I'll not go into any more detail here because if you don't know my story it's way too long.)  However, we never forced the Beatles on my son.  Sure we played their music around the house, but my son was drawn to music from the swing era and eventually moved onto 70s rock and punk.  It's not that he didn't like the Beatles (or their solo efforts), but he just wasn't into it.  Last time Paul McCartney toured our area, all of a sudden my son said he would have liked to have gone.  (It was too late at that point and as much as I love McCartney, I'm not spending hundreds of dollars for crappy seats.  I've done my bit and seen him up close. )  As you may know (or not) Paul McCartney has recently done some "pop up" concerts at a small venue in NYC.  My son is going to try to get into one them.  (I don't think there's much hope, but one can keep their fingers crossed.)  He's willing to get up early and stand in line to try and get tickets.  (Again, I don't know if this will happen.)  And if he can't he's interested in trying to see Ringo in June.  What happened?  Maybe he just doesn't want to miss out on being part of history?  Maybe he won't sell off our collection when we die?
  • How did the mail person get her truck stuck by our mailbox?  Hubby went out to get the mail this afternoon and saw three trucks by our box.  He couldn't get to our box because it was blocked by the mail truck, which apparently doesn't have four drive and wasn't going anywhere.  Luckily, my husband, along with two others (the ones in the other trucks), managed to push her out of the snow/muck and get her on her way.  (She said she doesn't usually drive this route...I know she's not our regular delivery person.  I don't know if she's ever done delivery at all.)  The question is, how did she manage to get herself in the position?  She'd already put mail in the two boxes that stand at the corner.  Somehow instead of going forward, she slid back?  How it happened it a question that will probably never be answered.  Along with the question, why did she put two packages in our mailbox and only one was for us?  Hubby didn't realize that the second was not addressed to us until after he arrived home.  Being good neighbors, we went out and delivered the packet to the correct mailbox.  (Which was not on the corner, but down the street behind us quite a ways.)

Lastly, I'll answer a question for you all, since I know you are all sitting on the edge of your seats wondering...did I buy the chair?  (Reference:  https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/one-down-eleven-to-go.html   )  Yes, I finally did.  It was only available for purchase on line, so I've never seen it in person!  How's that for a leap of faith?  I ordered it and was told that it would take 2-4 weeks before it would be delivered.  It's coming next Friday.  I ordered the "white glove" treatment which means they won't just deliver it but will also carry it into the house and place it where in want.  Photos will be available next week.  But of course a final question remains:  will they follow the directions to our house that they gave or will they ignore me and follow GSP directions which will leave them in my neighbor's driveway?  Place your bets now...and stay tuned!

Update:  My son DID not get tickets to see McCartney (small show tomorrow night).  I'm more bummed about about that then I would have been if I were going myself.
