Sunday, Sunday...

 ...can't trust that day!

Okay, so I know the song is actually "Monday, Monday," but yesterday was a strange one with some ups and downs and lots of questions.

The day started out dark.  Literally!  While I love the coming warm weather and longer days, I'm not a fan of moving that clock ahead and waking up in darkness.  It didn't help that it was really foggy out that morning, which made my drive to church a little dicey.

Things were good at church (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2026/03/international-womens-day-2026.html) and my drive back home was mostly clear. I didn't even need a coat!  (Hoorah!)

Once at home, even though it was warm(ish) outside, I enjoyed coffee by the fireplace.  (Love doing that.)

And then the highlight of the day...I was in the family room and looked out the back window and saw:

Now I know it's hard to see, but there are 10 goldfish swimming around in the murky pond.  The pond is murky because we haven't had them clean it and this winter was brutal. Despite covering the pond with netting to prevent things from getting in, we had a lot of wind and leaves and branch bits managed to make their way.  Add snow and ice which weighed the netting down and it makes for a not so optimum situation.  After last winter's debacle (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/cold-hearted-b.html) we were really worried about "the guys".  So to see a bunch swimming around made my heart sing.  There were a LOT of fish last year and some may not have made it, but we can confirm that a good bunch did and grew larger.  We are THRILLED.  And I can't wait for it to be warm enough for me to sit outside and watch them.  (And enjoy the sun.)

The not so good news is that because the snow is FINALLY melting, I decided to go out front and try to take down the holiday lights that were still on the bushes by the road and had been buried.  I was able to dig out the solar panel (which I wasn't sure would still work), but it broke off from the stake.  I figured I could try and fix it later.  I crawled around in the snow and gently tried to tug out the strand light by light.  But I guess I wasn't careful enough, as I was finally getting to the end, the wire snapped.  So there go my beloved lights.  Now they weren't that expensive and I'm pretty sure I can find something for next year, but...

Then came the strange. I walked down the street towards the east end of the driveway and in the road (to the right hand side), I discovered two large pieces of plastic that must have at one point been part of a car.  I'm guessing it was on the underside of one of the lower to the ground vehicles that tried to go down the road; probably getting cracked when the driver backed up against the snow.  Another reason why you SHOULDN'T drive when signs tell you not to and the path is covered in snow and ice.

The really bad news is that our refrigerator started making strange noises; I think it's the fan unit that is really quite loud.  Furthermore, the freezer section wanted the temperature to be -10.  It is usually set to 0.  When we tried to change it, it just kept going back.  My husband turned the whole thing off for a minute and turning it back on seemed to work...at least for 30 minutes or so.  Then it started again.  Then he did a complete reset for 5 minutes, turning off the breaker.  That seemed to work...for an hour or so.  Then the refrigerator section reset itself to 46 degrees, which is too warm.  It too would not stay set when we tried to change it.  Neither my husband nor I enjoyed the corned beef dinner I made.  (And not because the meat was way too fatty and expensive.)  We plugged our "garage fridge" back in, so we have back up, but trekking back and forth outside to the garage isn't optimal.  And when we researched this model (which of course they don't make any more), a replacement would be costly.  (More costly than I could have ever imagined...like you're not taking a vacation for several years costly.)  We do have a repairman coming this week and fingers crossed that this can be fixed.  (Is there a prayer for refrigerators?)

Is it any wonder that neither my husband nor I slept well last night?  Well at least I got to see a lovely moon-set and sun rise this morning.
