It's been over a week since the snowstorm that dumped over
20 in of snow in the Poconos and close to that same amount in New Jersey. The
temperatures have remained frigid and the challenge to get on a bus to Newark
remains.
When I drove home to New Jersey on Monday night,
I could see that there was still no cut out at the corner where I was dropped
off the previous week. (for reference: https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2026/01/bfths-bus-adventure.html)
So I decided again to take the early bus into Newark because I would not have
to climb over so much snow. (Although there is still plenty of snow and
ice to climb over.) There was a cut out at the corner so that
technically I could get to the sidewalk where the bus stop is, but whoever
shoveled the path made it so narrow that only a stick figure could get through
So once again I stood on the shoulder of the highway to
catch the morning bus.
Coming home in the afternoon I had intended to take that
same bus number back because the path was clearer. However, the bus that is
further away came first. And rather than stand in the frigid cold I decide I
would try again to get home and vowed not to try and walk in the street.
This time when the bus dropped me off, I entered the
driveway of the business. It's a car dealership. But instead of walking on the sidewalk,
which was shoveled but would not get me around the corner due to the fact that
that portion of the sidewalk was not shuffled, I walked up the parking area of
the car dealership. I thought I could go around and get on to the sidewalk on
the other side. However, it was not that easy. I did find a spot where they're
with less snow to crawl over. Even this old lady couldn't sort of manage
that.

Once I was on the sidewalk I thought I was good. However, I
was not. Because between the car dealership and the next business, a
restaurant, there was yet another big pile of snow. I don't understand how
someone could just leave a mountain of snow making it impossible for people to
walk from one place to another. I know they are two different businesses and
obviously have two different people/companies shoveling or plowing out but
really? So, I had to maneuver over some snow and into another parking lot to
get to where I was going.
Furthermore, while the driveway and parking lot of the
vacant business on the corner where I was headed was very well plowed out, the
sidewalk was not. And coming out the other side of the driveway, there was
still a pile of snow separating the business section from the residential
section.
When is this ever going to get fixed? When will it ever be
safe for pedestrians to walk on the sidewalk and to catch a bus without
standing on a mound of snow? With frigid temperatures continuing on over the
next several weeks it seems, I don't think it will be until Memorial Day
weekend that they'll snow will finally be gone. I will be happy if I am
wrong.
Once I finally got home, I decided that since I had nothing
to do I would head out to the mall. Specifically, I headed to Macy's. I had
hopes that I would be able to find someone who would help me find a new bra.
Make that new bras because you need more than one! (for reference: https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2026/01/lets-talk-bras.html)
Decades ago, Macy's was where I was fitted for one of the
most comfortable bras I ever had. However, I didn't know if they still had the
staff who did measurements. (Yes, it's a thing.)
I was happy to find out that there was a little old lady who
was more than happy to help. I may be a little old lady, but this woman was
even older than I and a was a hoot and a holler. (She told me a story
about a woman who was around 80 who was looking for a thong! More power
to that 80-year-old who wants a thong!) She took a look at me and told me
my cup size, which was not the size I had been wearing! The size that I had
been wearing since I had pretty much started wearing bras! Then she took my
measurements. And she was spot on! I had gone up a cup (band) size, but
my bust size remained the same. (Trust me you need special training to
figure this all out...38A? 46 B? 50DD? And now they have a
size G? When did that happen?)
She took me around and recommended certain bras. I
told her I was looking for comfort (is there such a thing?) and support/lift.
She'd tell me: "no you didn't wouldn't like this" or "yes this
would be good for you" and so on. We went through a lot of
racks! And some what I thought I might like, she nixed.
Then it was time for me to go into the fitting room and try
on bra after bra after bra. There were a lot of bras to check out! I was
in and out of bras for seemingly an eternity. (Hey, it isn't easy to hook and
adjust and then check how you look with a shirt on. And it isn't pretty
looking at yourself in the mirror with just a bra on when you are my age and
weight...it's just NOT!)
Finally, I settled upon four different bras. Again, my focus
was on comfort and support. To get what I want is not cheap! It's been a long
time since I've bought a quality bra (you know I've bought cheap ones and as
they say: cheap can turn out to be expensive.) Boy was I surprised at
some of the prices! But quality should last (I hope), if you take care of
it. Now that I know what I like, if I need more in the future, I can look
for sales. (You KNOW I will need more.)
I returned home with a lighter wallet, but ready to face a
new day. (Or not.) This morning, confidently wearing a new bra
(which is comfortable, but not completely so), I'm heading to work. And
I'm taking the early bus again because...you guessed it. There is still
no cut out at the one corner. I did see township trucks removing snow
from the side of the roads so cars could navigate and park better, but
pedestrians beware! We'll be climbing piles of snow and ice until...well
who knows? As a reminder, there are only 44 days till spring!
In some towns/cities, the owner/business is responsible for their sidewalk! Check it out... slip & fall, sue & retire?
