Spring Has Sprung...
...or at least it's trying to. We've had a couple of warmish days (coupled with a couple of cold ones.) I've actually had the windows open a bit on more than one occasion. (I really can't wait until I can open them and leave them open.) We're moving in the right direction and that gives me some hope.
New life is slowly popping up around here. Things are slowing going from brown to green. A few flowers have actually opened a little. The crocus was first and the daffodils are following suit. (How I LOVE daffodils...if they were to take over the yard I'd be happy.) The tulips are still trying. (I've got my fingers crossed.)
But how I know that spring is really here (even if it doesn't feel like it) is that the landscapers have come out and given the grounds a look over. I warned them that the winter was harsh on the land. They did a walk through (while I was not home). They saw what needs to be done. (A lot needs to be done and my wallet is going to hurt.) They cut off the last of the limb of the pine tree that came down and took it away. (I can finally get in and out of the garage without having to maneuver around it.) They took away the branches and bits that we had already taken care of and moved to the front of the house. They took away the remaining metal bits from the greenhouse (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/random-thoughts-on-last-sunday-in-march.html). And they'll be back to do a clean-up, which we do desperately need.
Another reminder that spring is here, the pond company came. (That's sure to be another big drain on my wallet.) They drained and cleaned the pond area; removing the remains of the fish. (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/cold-hearted-b.html) A sad thing, but as it turns out we were not the only ones in the area who had a sudden lost. They revealed that several other clients lost all their fish as well. I have to say that the news was somewhat of a relief to me, as it reinforced that I hadn't done anything wrong. (I still feel some guilt though). They cleaned and treated. Now we are refilling the pond (which, with our water pressure is going to take days and also put my water bill through the roof).
Once it is full, they will come back and treat again. They want to make sure that the pond is healthy for fish. (It already is healthy for other creatures. I have spotted several frogs and a salamander living in the area.)
We will replenish the pond with some plants and fish. (Though not koi this time, we are starting out with some goldfish and see how that goes.)
A few warm sunny days, a
cleaned up yard and a working pond will definitely lift my spirits and enhance
my mental health. And that's something we all need.
