It's Time To Do Something!
If you are like me, you are sick and tired of all the
political advertisements that are EVERYWHERE. Signs are on the
lawns. TV commercials on every channel. Knocks on the front door. (More often than I'd ever imagine possible!) Social media posts.
I've had enough! (Honestly, I had enough WEEKS ago.)
It all ends now. (Or at least it does for me here in NJ.)
Today is the day to pass by them all and actually get out there and do
something: VOTE!
I am an early bird (and I hate lines), so I am at my polling
place during every election at 6 in the morning. (Your location times may
vary. Check this out: https://ballotpedia.org/State_Poll_Opening_and_Closing_Times_
(2018)). I sign in and cast my vote. It shouldn't take long.
You've done your research right? Made your decision based on your
rational thinking, correct? I hope so.
I know I have. And even that didn't take long. A
few clicks to check out local candidates and what they stand for. I do go
to their websites, but I also view their answers to questions asked my local
media or at public debates. I'm a busy woman. We all are busy
people and with the internet, it doesn't take long to check out those
names on the ballot and make an informed decision.
And we NEED to make informed decisions because in these
times voting the party line should NOT be the answer. It should be
voting for the people and what they stand for. They may just all be from
the same political party or maybe not. Remember, it's YOUR vote...it's
YOUR decision. Who you vote for is up to YOU.
As for me, I decided not all that long ago that no party
accurately represented my beliefs. I am not affiliated with ANY
party. (So, no I did not vote in the primary.) I vote with my heart
AND my mind. (Maybe if we all did this the parties would be forced to
dissolve or at least take a hard look at themselves and stop fighting each
other and start WORKING.)
We live in a country where we have the privilege of being
able to vote for who we want to. Those who have gone before us fought
long and hard so that we might have this opportunity. I feel we are
OBLIGATED to make our voice heard by casting our vote.
