Yes It's My Birthday

So I'm another year older.  Not thrilled about the number, but I happy that I am still here and doing (for the most part) okay.  The years go by so quickly!  (And yet they also don’t!  How is that possible? )  I wonder how I got this old.  Am I really this old?  What the heck is going on here?  When do I "know" that I am an adult.  When do I "know" what the heck I am doing?  The answer is probably NEVER!  (If I’ve come this far and still don’t know, that seems to be very likely.)

As I get older, I see more of my parents in myself.  I look at my body/shape and I look more and more like my mother.  I have flabby arms (I'd rather they were "floppy" like Bert's...IYKYK), heavy legs and my stomach is getting larger. What the heck is going on?  I can't lose the weight like I once did.  (I know I eat too much and I'm having a hard time NOT doing that!) Eating less and exercising more doesn’t do what it once it.

On the other hand, my face and skin is more like my father's.  I've had the huge line/wrinkle for longer than I care to remember.  (No retinol or other facial lotion/serum is going to help and I'm NOT injecting anything!).  Overall, I've got lumps and bumps that are not a health issue (I know, I check in), but don't make me happy.  When they say we turn into our parents, they aren't kidding. We really do!

But let’s get back to this all important date and the extremely important question: what do I want for my birthday this year?  Well, there's world peace, equality for all, health care access for all, eradication of cancer (all) and tacos for all.  Personally, I'd also like 20 pounds to just melt away. (Maybe we should make it 30?)   Or how about sunny weekends with rain only on Monday or Thursdays.  Or if you'd like to send me cash, I'd be happy to provide my mailing address.  (I prefer $100s, but I won't turn down smaller dominations.)

Since none of the above is (probably) going to happen, what can YOU do for my birthday?  Be kind or do a good deed.  And then let me know.  Like calling a relative just to let them know you love them.  Or smiling at a stranger in the store.  Or treating yourself to a long hot bath (or a cool bath).  But here's the catch; it can't be something you'd do anyway.  Or if you regularly smile at strangers, then that doesn't count.  So maybe you smile and complement them on their shoes or hold open a door.  It needs to be something out of your "norm" and it needs to be intentional.  And I really WOULD like it if you let me know what you did in "honor" of my birthday.

Make this world a better place for my birthday with a simple act.  Believe me, it's a great gift and not just for me.

(Oh...and if you don't have bags of cash lying around...yeah, I'll take that too!)
