Fun Friday?
It's not quite the weekend, but there's lots of fun going on around "Casa de Poconos."
First off, our new front
windows (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/open-new-window.html)
are being put in. (Yes, these are the windows that are costing me almost
as much as the annual salary of my first job out of college. Yes, that
was a LONG time ago and my first salary was kind of sad and pathetic, but
still. And this is only for 2 sets of windows...a three "set"
on the left in the living room and a two "set" on the right in the
dining room. I guess I need to say a prayer that all the rest of the
windows in the house hold up because there are a LOT of windows and I know it
would be a LOT of money. Even though I make an "okay" salary
currently [who doesn't want a better salary?], I'm betting I don't make enough
in a year to replace all or even half of them.) The front door is wide
open, the old windows have been popped out and I'm sure that the bugs are
having a field day. (It is VERY buggy around here...how could it not be when
it's been nice and damp all spring and now it's incredibly warm?). I'm
just hoping not too many creatures make their way in. (Cross those
fingers and say a prayer! I'm feeling itchy already.)
Second, the landscaper has come
by to do some trimming. Actually a LOT of trimming. Again, with all
the rain we've had, EVERYTHING has blossomed and grown. And I do mean
grown! Go into the backyard and you get serious jungle vibes. It's
pretty and I'm thrilled that everything has grown, but it's overgrown.
You can't walk on the "paths" because nature is seriously taking over.
Even short little I has to duck to get under some of the brush.
Of course all of this is going
on at the same time. So I have weed wacker in the back. I have
hammering in the front. Yes, this is my little piece of serenity
today. Or not. (Maybe I shouldn't have bitched about the tree
service guys who were working on a neighbor's property last Friday!)
Less noisy fun is dinner that I
am trying to crock. Pork shoulder was on sale at ShopRite,
so I thought some pulled pork would be great. I got the smallest one they
had, but...My crock pot is small so...I've jammed it in there as best I can,
but the lid still isn't on very well. I'm hoping that once it really
starts to cook, the fat will melt and I will be able to "mush" it
down and get it on better. Meanwhile, I have the aroma of garlic spice
and pork mingled with the odor of wacked weeds, window dust and a
"burny" smell which must have something to do with all the work they
are doing in the window area. (As well as lingering smell of
cigarettes...as the window installer smokes. Not in my house, but you
know.)
Speaking of smells...we have a
fridge in our basement. Since we moved in, it's been unplugged. We
didn't need it. (We did and DO need the chest freezer that is right next
to it.) We have a large fridge in the kitchen. (Or maybe it's just
an "average" one...I'm so used to having to work with small spaces
that I don't know what is "normal.") We haven't needed an
additional fridge. However, summer is coming and I am planning an event
in July and I wanted to make sure that I had enough space to store food,
so...The basement fridge (with its "regular" sized freezer on the
top) had a slight odor. The fridge section was relatively clean with the
freezer section needing some more work. So I've been scrubbing them both
out as best I can. (There's nothing like being on your hands and knees on
the basement floor while trying to get some "goo" out of the back of
the crisper section.) The fridge has been plugged back in and is cooling
nicely. Since there still is a lingering odor, I've placed boxes of
baking soda in both the fridge and freezer sections. (I also put a bowl
of coffee grounds in the freezer in hopes that it will help as well.)
So it's just another fun Friday. Hope everyone's weekend (including mine) is calm and quiet(er).
