A Great Weekend

The world is so full of bad news these days.  Too often I bemoan the negativity in the world.  So I feel it's important to share news that is not only good, but lifted me up over the weekend.

First off, I woke up early on Saturday morning.  That was because we had a brief power outage and I was awoken by the sound of electronics turning back on.  I should have gone back to sleep, but you know how it is sometimes.  You want to sleep, but...

Being up before dawn, I, like so many of us, went to check my phone for emails and social media updates.  And that's when I found out that my cousin (who lives halfway around the world) got engaged!  Despite the fact that we don't really see each other (hey, she lives in another country thousands of miles away) and that she is much younger than me (it seems like everyone these days is), I feel relatively close to her.  Or as close as you can be when you live so far away from each other and have only met face to face once (I think that's right).  She's a fantastic and funny woman.  She's creative and caring.  She was also amazing to my son when he was little.  (If you're good to my kid,  you've made a lifelong friend in me.)  Using the positive power of social media, we've kept in touch over the years.  (And even being able to chat.)  From what I can see/tell her finance is just as fun loving and kind as she is, which makes my heart full.  Cousin C, I am so happy for you (and for your finance)!  Know that your good news made my weekend start off right.  (Even if it was incredibly early.)

I had to drive from PA to NJ over the weekend.  The good news on that front is that both route 80 east and west now have 2 lanes open.  Not perfect, but reason for rejoicing after months of detouring.  I'd like to say my trek was trouble free, but despite breezing through the "sinkhole area", just a mile or so after that was a bad accident that closed down the highway again!  So it was a detour for me, but hopefully that was just an anomaly.  (And also hope that everyone involved is okay.)

Later in the day (Saturday), I attended a "meet and greet" for the new pastor at my church in NJ.  (More details:  https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2025/06/a-tale-of-two-eriks.html).  It was not just a chance to meet him, but also gave me a chance to meet up with friends that I hadn't seen in a long time.  As a matter of fact, after the event, some friends came back to my house and we had a wonderful evening of margaritas and pizza.  (You can't go wrong with that.)  It was an afternoon/evening of laughter and I am so happy that we were all able to get together on the spur of the moment.

You might think that the above was the best part of the weekend, but it wasn't.  (Although it was great.)  The best part of the weekend (and no disrespect to our new pastor) was that I got to see Andy.  (For background info on this search his name on this site.  There's too much to try and squeeze it all in here.)  Andy is more than a friend; he is extended family. (Even though he has his own large and loving ACTUAL family.)  Andy is one of the most important people in my life.  I haven't seen him or really talked to him in over a year, as Andy had some serious health issues and was in and out of the hospital for much of 2024.  He is always in my heart and prayers.  And he felt it was important to come to the "meet and greet" to see the new pastor.  (He's done this with every new pastor that we've had since the 1960s.) When he arrived, the seas parted and the elation that was felt not just by me, but by everyone in the room was palpable.  Tears of joy were shed by more than just one person.  To give him a hug filled my heart with so much love.  All was well with the world at that moment.  If you have an Andy in your life, cherish every moment and let your heart be filled.

I wrapped up the weekend by attending the town's pride event.  (Just in case you didn't know, June is Pride Month.)  I got to be with friends and share good news.  It was even sunny and warm(ish) out for most of the afternoon.  Good weather, good music, good friends...you can't beat that.

Now  here we are at Monday and the work week is about to begin.  Because this weekend was so positive, I'm entering this week with a renewed spirit and a smile on my face.

May this week bring us all the joy that I felt over the weekend.  Let it be a great one.
