April Fool
It's April 1st, or as it's also known April Fool's Day. I was never one to try and pull a big practical joke, but both my mother and I would try small jokes that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. I could usually get them to work on my mother if I got her early enough in the morning, before she realized the date. And my "tricks" were usually simple: OMG! Do you see what's in the backyard?! Or "What happened to your car?" So on April 1st, I'm thinking of my mom and wishing I could try a prank out on her.
But today pulling a
prank or a gag would be difficult. What crazy thing could I say?
- Got Covid? Inject yourself with bleach
- Hey did you see, gas is under $2 a gallon?
- Did you know windmills cause cancer?
- Did you hear? They're tearing down (part of) the
White House!
- We can stop that hurricane with a nuclear weapon!
- Let's replace teachers with robots/AI!
- I don't like the results; let's storm the
Capitol. If we get arrested, the President will pardon us
- Who cares if he's a felon; let's elect him!
- Did you hear? Even if you're a US citizen you can
be deported.
- Have you bought the President's Bible?
- You know what would be cool? Having the sitting
President's signature on currency
- I don't need to vote, I'm a woman.
Outrageous right? But as I'm
sure you know, all are partially (or even totally) based in
reality.
During the height of Covid, the President said maybe we could inject ourselves with bleach. He's said that gas is under $2 a gallon (and maybe it was in one or two locations, but that was before he started a war in Iran that was not approved by Congress). We've seen the destruction of the White House. We've watched the First Lady walk with a robot and suggest that they could be part of your child's education. Do I have to go on?
So, how can I play an April Fool's prank today? What could I say that would be more outrageous than the few items I listed above? It seems to me that we've all been made fools by this administration. We are the fools. America is great with fools. And that's no laughing matter.
