SNOW (and ICE!)

While panic wasn't needed (https://bfthsboringblog.blogspot.com/2026/01/bfth-panics-about-weather.html) we did have a heck of a snow storm, which started on Sunday morning. (I'm thinking around 4:30 because when I got up to go to the bathroom I could see a slight dusting over the small patches of driveway that had actually been dry.)  It continued into Monday morning.  So it should come as no surprise that we got a LOT of snow.  (We have so much that the outdoor lights are buried.  When the sun goes down, I have patches of snow that glow!

And will I EVER be able to get the holiday lights off of the bushes?  Will I ever see the bushes again?)
(They're under there somewhere!)

I'm not sure of how much because there was already snow on the ground in many places.  I already big mounds of it piled up at the ends of the driveway.

(And my two road signs that warned drivers that our drive was not a through street have disappeared.  They may be under the snow or they may have been destroyed by the plow...Not that I'm complaining [much], I'm grateful that the 20 or so inches of snow have been moved so that I can get my car out of the garage and onto the street...as it were.  Hopefully come spring, I'll find both.  In the meantime, there is still the small sign on the pole.)

(If you look carefully  you can see the top of the frame on which the sign was on)

My mounds have turned into mountains.  And those mountains aren't going away anytime soon.

Why do I say that?  Because temperatures around here are not going to hit above freezing for the next two weeks.  (At least according to the app I use.)  The warmest it will be around here is next Wednesday when it MAY hit 31.  Tomorrow night will be the coldest with a predicted low of -3.  It feels more like Greenland that Northeastern Pennsylvania.  (Could Greenland be angry at us?  Maybe if we are nicer to them, they will stop sending their weather and temperature our way?)

While snow is a pain, ICE is even worse. Ice is sneaky.  Ice is dangerous.  Ice causes all kind of trouble.  You don't necessarily see it and then...BAM, you're down on your backside leaving you bruised and bloodied, or even worse.  Yes, people have even died as the result of ice.  I don't like ice.  (Does ANYONE?)  Well, maybe in a drink.  (But not wine!)  But even in my drinks, I don't like a lot of ice because it just crowds the glass and dilutes the true flavor.  So I say, with the exception of a cool drink, beware of ice!  (Just to make it very clear:  BEWARE of ICE!)

So it looks like it's going to be a LONG and COLD winter.  Be safe.  Be strong.  Be wise.  And, if you're like me, take lots of pictures so you'll never forget this winter when the warmth of the sun finally comes this way again.  Because this season which has been unceasingly cruel, will eventually end.  ICE will melt.  Maybe it won't happen as soon as we like, but it will go, especially if we chip away at it slowly and methodically. It will go...

And remember, only 52 days till spring!
