Bfth Asks: Old Lady Boobs
If the title of this post doesn't give it away, if you are not an "older" woman then this blog post is probably not for you. (Although it you want to read; I'm not going to judge.) This is also going to include some stuff that is also TMI, so don't say you haven't been warned. You have. And just to make it crystal clear: this post is about breasts. Not young perky breasts (although I never had those) and there will certainly be no "provocative photos." I'm talking about the old lady boobs that so many like to make fun of. (There will be no making fun of in this post.)
Even when I was young (was I
young?) "sagging" was an issue. My personality may be perky, my
breast are not. I do not have large ones (Last time I looked I was a B
cup; 38 B to be exact) and they were never going to be on the cover of a men's
magazine.
I've had my challenges over the
years with them. When I was a teen I got shingles. (Yes, I got them as a
teen!) It was summer so it was a nice and hot. The shingles rash
appeared right under my right breast, which made wearing anything other than a
loose t-shirt uncomfortable. I don't recall it being the worst thing that
I've ever experienced (although it was a long time ago), but it definitely was
NOT a great summer.
When I was in my 30s I had a
lump that worried me as my mother had a lump that had to be surgically
removed. Mine turned out to be nothing and I never had to have surgery.
More recently (and this
definitely gets into the TMI territory), I had fungal infections, both over
summer months. THAT was more uncomfortable than Shingles (as I recall) as
the topical treatment given to me didn't "do the trick" and only
ended up "burning" me. (I know you weren't going to, but don't
ask,) Both times I had to take an oral antibiotic. Ever since I've
been extra vigilant about keeping the "under boob" dry and powered.
Which at least brings me to
what I wanted to ask you (whoever you, the reader, are). Ever since the
"fungal issue" I've been wearing bras less. When I'm at home,
who needs them? However, when I am out in public (in the office,
shopping) I feel that I DO need one. So I'm looking for suggestions.
I've NEVER found the perfect
bra. One that is comfortable and lifts. I put one on recently when
I was going out and it didn't seem to lift at all. And while I'll admit
I'm plump (hell, I'm fat), the bra didn't do me any favors. I'd like a
bra to do me a favor and make me look "good." (I'll admit I'm
not even sure what that means.)
I'm NOT a fan of
underwire. I've heard if you have the right fit, that underwire is NOT
uncomfortable. I've not found that to be so. The under area is the
most sensitive (at least that's what I've found) and underwires are NOT for the
sensitive.
The brand of bra that I've
found to be provide the most lift (at least for me) is Carnival. Their
straps also slide the least off my shoulders. (Did I mention how straps
are always sliding down? Please tell me you can relate.) However,
the underband can get uncomfortable and the look is not always
"smooth". (Does anyone else remember the old bra commercials
where "smoothness" was a thing? You want to wear a bra, but not
look like you are wearing a bra).
There are so many brands and
types. My social media feeds are full of the "best" bras.
(Obviously big brother knows I'm out there looking.) But what is
the best and how can you trust reviews? (How can you trust ANYTHING
on the internet these days?) I'm ready to try something new and I'm
willing to pay for a high quality bra that is comfortable, lifts and
lasts. Does anyone know what that is?
I cannot be the only "old
lady" asking this question. So, I'm asking (and my saggy boobs are
begging) for you to share your thoughts and opinions here. Even if you
aren't an old lady like me. Make suggestions; I'm listening. (And
so are my old lady boobs.)
