Let's Talk Bras...
Yes, this is a (sort of) follow up to my post on old lady boobs. And my continued search for a bra that fits, lifts and is comfortable. Does such a thing exist?
The number one suggestion I got was to get professionally fitted. And
I probably should do that. I did do that many years ago at a Macy's
nearby in NJ. I bought an expensive bra (https://www.wacoal-america.com/)
and I was happy with it. But that was a long time ago. I bought more of
that brand at a pop up outlet at the company had when I worked in the
Meadowlands area. (I have no idea if they still have offices
there.) Again, that was a long time ago! Plus I've aged, my weight
has gone up and down (and up again). So I probably do need to get a
professional fitting. However, I'm in the Poconos now and there isn't a
place close by. Which means it's something I need to do when I'm in
NJ. From what I can tell the Macy's that I went to way back when no
longer offers this service. That means I need to find somewhere
else. I'm sure I eventually will, but it's going to take some time.
Which is why when someone suggested a bra from a company I knew and had
ordered from before, I thought I'd give it a go.
I'm not going to name the company here, but they sell a variety of women's
undergarments. I have purchased tights from them before and I have been
very happy with them. They are not one size fits all (which is what my
beloved E.G. Smith used to be). They have a different sizing system than the
usual small, medium, large. According to their sizing, I'm a D. I
bought several pairs back in 2022 (and I still have them). I've bought
more pairs since then, especially when they are on sale. They are
comfortable and warm, so when it comes to skirts/dresses I'm either going with
colorful (or not so colorful) tights or bare legged (and yes you can see my varicose
veins...deal with it.)
Based on my success with their tights, I decided to try their bras;
especially as they were having a buy one/get one. Again, they don't have
"traditional" sizing (so no 36A, 38B or 42C). According to
calculations I would be a 4 regular cup. So I ordered 2 of their full
support bras and with shipping costs it was only about $52. (Definitely a
good price.) And I waited.
They arrived on Wednesday and I was excited to give them a go. I tried one on. Or I tried to. I needed help because they have 4 hooks instead of the regular 1-3.
I didn't find it particularly comfortable. I didn't think it lifted. And because the way it is designed, it was visible under my shirt. I was really disappointed.
Today, I went on line to find out how to return them and that's where I run
into a conundrum. I can return them via post to their overseas address. I
know they are based in Europe, but they have a US warehouse which is where the
bras were shipped from. Shipping them back overseas is going to be costly.
Anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 the price of what I paid. So for arguments sake,
I pay $20 bucks to ship back two bras and am (hopefully) refunded $44.
I'm not sure it's worth it. So I either keep 2 bras that I'm not
that pleased with, but I suppose I might wear. Or I ship them back and
after my out of pocket costs, get just over $20. (And that's after the aggravation
of going to the post office and filling out all the paperwork to ship something
overseas.)
No matter what I do, I still need to find a comfortable and supportive
bra. The search continues...

I totally sympathesize.
ReplyDeleteBeth, haven’t been there in a few years, but the Maidenform outlet at the Crossings in Tannersville used to do bra fittings. They carry several brands and were always helpful with suggestions. Good luck.
