Doing The Happy Dance?
"Yesterday was plain awful. You can say
that again. Yesterday was plain awful. But that's not now, that's
then." (From the musical Annie)
Yes, yesterday wasn't one of the best ones in my life.
Everything seemed to be falling apart, but...
Today, I am ready to do the happy dance. Why?
The blinking light: Earlier today they stopped the light from blinking and turned it on. (Supposedly this happened around 10 AM.) This means that traffic will have to STOP and I can cross the highway when the bus lets me off without taking my life into my hands. And you really do take your life into your hands when you're crossing; even with a blinking yellow light, NO ONE was slowing down. So maybe I shouldn't get too hyped up because who knows if anyone is going to stop for an actual red light. (Seems to me that too many people think that stopping at a red light or a stop sign is "optional.") This light has been needed for so many years and I'm THRILLED that it actually is in and working. I know this is going to cause traffic to back up, but traffic was backing up BEFORE they put in the light. (And the box was blocked...IYKYK.) So yes, traffic is going to be terrible, but it always was and now I (and anyone else who needs to) can cross the street! Woo hoo! (And yes, I did a live stream video when I crossed! It took about a minute for the light to turn green "my" way, but it did. And traffic actually stopped!)- Even more
importantly, we have air conditioning in the Poconos! This is a
really long (and hot) story that starts on one of the hottest days of the
year; June 23rd. We live in the mountains; we shouldn't need A/C right?
Well, it's been getting into the 90s in the mountains, so we turned on the
A/C when it got really hot and nothing really happened. It was on,
it was running, but no cool air. Because it was so hot and crazy,
the HVAC company couldn't get out until later in the week. We had to
return to NJ, so having them come on Thursday was fine. What wasn't
fine was that when they came, it turned out we needed parts that had to be
order. This took us into the next week. Parts came in, but one
of them wasn't right; as a result, we COULD have air conditioning, but the
fan would never shut off. Even when we turned the thermostat off, it
still kept running. Which meant we had to turn off the breaker,
which lead to some other issues...This has been going on and on and on and
on. Turns out the new part that we needed is not made exactly the
way that it used to be. (There's a lot of details here that I do not
understand nor am I going to try to.) Long story short (I know...too
late!), my husband did some research, the owner of the HVAC company came
out and discussed everything with my husband to see how we could do a work
around. Today, the lead HVAC tech arrived at the house and was told
not to leave until everything was fixed. And it is! (Or at
least that's what my husband tells me.) Part of the problem might
have been that the thermostat (A Nest so that we could control the
temperature when we were not home), had not been installed
correctly. So fingers crossed that everything is good (and
stays good) I’m not happy with the cost of the repair, but
that's a debate for another day. (And my electric bill will rival
the national debt, but that's another story. The unit has been running
pretty much non-stop since it was fixed this afternoon. It still
hasn't hit the temperature we want. Maybe I'm only so-so happy
dancing now?) And maybe now that we have working A/C, temperatures
will dip, and we won't need it? (A woman can hope.)
My tomato plant is still alive and has 4 tiny tomatoes. They are green and small, but it's a start. With the wet and hot weather I wasn't sure how this was going to work out. I mean the weeds are taking over the yard, but the tomatoes I wasn't so sure of. If I get one ripe mini tomato out of all of this, I will be a happy camper. Not only will I be doing the happy dance, I'll be happy eating!
The fish seem to be thriving. I don't know what happened to all of them. (There were supposed to be 20 when we started. I know at least one did die.) I can only count about 10, but maybe more are hiding? (I've tried to feed them some treats, but they still seem to be really nervous when people come by.) At least the few that are adventurous seem to be playful as they dart around the pond. (I think they act like they are more caffeinated than I am in the morning.) I've never seen the turtles, so I have to wonder if they wandered off. (Because they could do that.) The frogs seem to have vanished too, but every once in a while I catch something moving in the pond that isn't a fish, so...I'm just happy to have growing and active fish.
So here's to doing the happy dance. May I boogie the night away for a LONG time because I need a little happy. And so do we all...so whenever you can, do it!
